Earthquakes & Well Water: Shaken, Not Stirred

Concerned about the condition of your drinking supply after an earthquake?  After Tuesday’s quake, many private well water owners have begun noticing discoloration, or turbidity, in their well water.  While not uncommon after an earthquake, any change in private water supplies should be tested to ensure that the supply remains safe to drink.  In addition, you may also want to consider turning off/bypassing any filtering systems until the turbidity issue has been addressed as sediment can quickly clog these filters.  The USGS and several other government and private organizations have published additional information on the subject of well water after an earthquake.
